In this article I want to compare the accuraccy of the data and the calculations used in some of the visualisations, en-route ATFM delay, to be more precise.
The reference for comparison will be the document EUROCONTROL Standard Inputs for Economic Analyses. In here, in chapter, the average en-route delay is defined like this:
In Excel in the pivot table I added a calculated field that divides the Minutes of en-route ATFM delay (DLY_ERT_1) by Total number of flights within the respective airspace (FLT_ERT_1) fields.
Here are the results aggregated for EUROCONTROL Area (MS). The first one is from the dataset without the post-ops adjustements*, the second one with post ops adjustments.
When you compare the results with the referenced figures, they are pretty accurate.
